ic I did a large color version of this in pastels for a poster many years ago. I liked it so well I did a smaller, graphite version--then a giclee print to sell! It seemed apropos for the theme this week. To buy the giclee, go to www.kmstudio.etsy.com
This is my first submission to Illustration Friday; the illustration was done for a children's book several years ago: the 1991 printing of "The Basket Counts" by the popular children's book author Matt Christopher. If you are in your twenties you may remember reading this compelling story of racial tension on the basketball court. To buy this original illustration, go to www.kmstudio.etsy.com
My earliest memory as an artist was demonstrating to my fellow kindergarteners how to draw a birthday cake--with a slice removed! I don’t remember a time when I didn’t think of myself as an artist. I have grown up to illustrate children’s books, magazine articles, fashion, and sewing techniques. I have designed for products, branding, brochures, advertising, and publishing. I have taught drawing, graphic design, illustration--I’ve even taught friends to sew.
Drawing is a meditative experience for me. My best work happens when I get out of my head and into the experience of creating ‘magic’ on the page: small, contained worlds of serenity filled with soft light and palpable atmosphere.
